S+A not resting on its laurels as sports channel moves forward
ABS-CBN head for Integrated Sports Dino Laurena wants ABS-CBN S+A to be "more than just a sports channel."
Despite sitting pretty as the number one sports channel on free television, ABS-CBN S+A continues on its quest to provide Filipinos with the best content available and making sure that sports becomes fully integrated to the daily lives of Filipinos worldwide.
More than acquiring the best product like the NBA, the UAAP, NCAA, the newly-rebranded Premier Volleyball League, and others, S+A now hopes to further evolve into more than just a channel thant is dedicated to sports.
"We would like to engrave sports in the everyday lives of Filipinos," ABS-CBN head for Integrated Sports Dino Laurena said Thursday at the S+A trade event at the Manila Polo Club in Makati.
"Last year, when we re-launched, we embraced a new vision and we said let's not just be a sports channel," he added. "We have to be bigger than that so that [when] everything unfolds, we have a bigger value to our audiences out there. More than a sports channel, we wanted to be a sports advocacy."
With the current seasons of major sporting events wrapping up, ABS-CBN S+A hopes to usher in a new era of sorts with the upcoming PVL that will feature a more interactive approach with the viewers.
Taking advantage of innovations in technology, S+A is on the move to provide better viewing experiences to its audience.
"We wil go beyond just providing sports coverage of the games and we will build on content and programming that aims to inspire our ever-growing sports audience," Laurena said.
Aside from stepping up it's game when it comes to bringing sports closer to the people, S+A will also continue to provide inspiration to the nation through the stories of the athletes themselves.
The channel's main slogan "Sumasaludo sa Pusong Palaban ng Lahing Pilipino" will be at the center of it all.
"Through the inspiring stories of the athletes that we feature, we pay tribute to each and every Filipino who constantly overcomes challenges in their daily lives," Laurena said.
"Sports is a great motivator, sports has the power to inspire. Alam nating lahat, ang audience natin out there they're not just out to be entertained, we also need to deeply motivate and inspire them as they go on in their daily lives," he added.
