Bolts frustrate Road Warriors to keep unbeaten slate
The Bolts' joined defending champion Rain or Shine for an early lead with a 2-0 start and put the Road Warriors to 0-2 for the mid-season joust.

It's already the second conference of the Yeng Guiao era in NLEX but the Road Warriors still can't catch a break.

Meralco issued a sound beating to its sister team Sunday at the Big Dome, scoring a 91-84 win to remain undefeated in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

The Bolts' joined defending champion Rain or Shine for an early lead with a 2-0 start and put the Road Warriors to 0-2 for the mid-season joust.

"Another good win for us tonight. Our defense really stepped up in the second half, we did a very good job defensively," head coach Norman Black said.

True enough, Meralco clamped down on defense in the second half, turning a five-point deficit at the break into a 17-point cushion by the fourth quarter, 88-71.

With the game still close after three quarters, the Bolts particularly held their ground the strongest early in the fourth, unloading a 14-0 run to completely pull away.

" I thought in the first half, we were a bit lax. We gave up a lot of points in the 2nd quarter, but in the 3rd and 4th we did a lot better," Black added.

With import Alex Stephenson still working on his game condition, the locals once again stepped up for Meralco.

This time, veteran Jared Dillinger led the way, scoring 20 points while Chris Newsome added 15. Reynel Hugnatan came off the bench to contribute 13 points.

Stephenson was better this time around too compared to two days ago, going for 18 points and 24 rebounds.

For NLEX, which looks like it carried over its struggles from the All-Filipino, only two players cracked double digits.

Import Wayne Chism topscored with 18 but shot a miserable 33 percent from the field. Garvo Lanete was the top local for NLEX with 14 points.
