David's explosions all too familiar for James Yap
"Pag nakita niya ata ako parang nanlalaki mata niya eh." --- James Yap on longtime rival Gary David.
James Yap is all too familiar with Gary David going bananas and taking over games late.
Remember the whole "Nagliliyab na" debacle the then BMEG Llamados suffered five years ago at the hands of the then Powerade Tigers?
Yep, James remembers although he would like to probably forget about the whole thing.
On Sunday however, Yap for sure had a little bit of a flashback as his current team Rain or Shine almost got the upset axe after David started to go bananas for Mahindra in the fourth quarter of their Commissioner's Cup encounter.
David, now with the Floodbuster, fired 13 points all in the final period with the last one a booming three that gave Mahindra an 86-80 lead with about two minutes to go.
"Pag nakita niya ata ako parang nanlalaki mata niya eh," Yap said of his former rival.
"Nandun naman yung challenge pero pumapasok pa rin eh. Well, okay naman and okay lang ganun talaga laro. At least nanalo di ba?" James added.
True enough, from David's final basket, the Elasto Painters went on an 8-2 run to force overtime.
Come the extra session, Rain or Shine found itself down by three but responded with another 9-2 blitz to steal away the victory.
He and his team may have had the last laugh now but you can bet Yap had a little bit of a bitter flashback from five years ago.
Gary David's "nagliliyab na mga kamay" are hard to forget after all.
