Finally, the time has come.

The Philippines will open its title defense Saturday in the 39th William Jones Cup, facing a rather mysterious Canadian selection which gunner Matthew Wright says is the best team of the tournament "on paper."

Gilas Pilipinas starts its nine-day grind in Taipei at 3:00 p.m. live from the Taipei Peace Internationa Basketball Hall, looking to follow up on Mighty Sports' victory last year and win the country's sixth Jone Cup championship.

The returning Mac Belo, together with Matthew Wright, RR Pogoy, Mike Tolomia, Carl Bryan Cruz, Von Pessumal, Jio Jalalon, Kevin Ferrer, Ed Daquioag, Kobe Paras, Kiefer Ravena, Fil-German Christian Standhardinger, Raymar Jose, Almond Vosotros, Ray Parks, Alfonso Gotladera, and import Mike Myers, will make up the Gilas roster of the Jones Cup.

Although the Philippines is the defending champion in the Taiwan invitational, the last time Gilas Pilipinas actually won the tournament was back in 2012 when Gilas 2.0 went an impressive 7-1, beating a USA select team in the final day to take the crown.

LA Tenorio was the tournament MVP five years ago.

Gilas Pilipinas' last official appearance in the Jones Cup was two years ago, finishing second to Iran.
