Teng posts triple-double, Flying V clinches semis seat
Jeron Teng posted a triple-double in Flying V's rout of AMA University Online to punch a semifinals ticket.
Unbeaten Flying V Thunder clinched an outright semifinals top seed berth as the Thunder leaned on Jeron Teng’s triple-double effort in a 114-91 rout of AMA University Online Education in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The former De La Salle University star opened the floodgates for Flying V in second half, scoring 11 points in the third quarter to finish with 21 points. He dished out 13 assists and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Thunder, who preserved their pristine record to 8-0 and moved two wins away from completing a sweep of the elimination round.
Teng was the fourth player to register a triple-double after Ray Parks for BDO-National University, Mike Tolomia, who did it twice last year for Phoenix, and Kent Salado of Racal early this conference.
“Jeron has nothing to prove when it comes to his scoring, but the good thing is he’s showing that he’s a multi-dimensional player,” said coach Eric Altamirano.
Eric Salamat led all scorer with 33 points on 13-of-19 field goal shooting and added five rebounds, five steals and three assists for Flying V. Jerick Canada had 15 while Gab Banal scored 14.
The Thunder came in after halftime carrying the energy and intensity it lacked in the first two quarters to erase a 43-45 end of second frame deficit. Flying V got buried 2-18 early in opening frame.
“We’re happy that we’re the first one to make it to the semis. In the first half, we were a bit shaky, we were so relaxed and were complacent, but the good thing is we got our game back in the third quarter,” said the veteran mentor, as Flying V poured 41 points in the third.
Flying V blew the game wide-open early in the fourth, pulling away by as much as 32 points, 103-71.
The also-ran Titans slid to 1-7 in a three-way tie at the cellar with Gamboa Coffee Mix and Zark’s.
