NLEX continues to impress in the PBA Governors' Cup.
After absorbing their first defeat last week, the Road Warriors immediately bounced back, taking down Meralco, 100-94, Sunday at the MOA Arena.
NLEX became the first team to beat the Bolts in the season-ending conference, dropping Meralco to 4-1.
The Road Warriors took a half-game lead in the standings over their latest victims, improving to 5-1.
Engaged in a close game all throughout, NLEX just found enough offense in the end to frustrate the Bolts to take a league-best fifth win.
"It's a good way to bounce back from our Ginebra loss. We were really kind disappointed after that. We felt that we were really off during our out of town game. We did our preparation for this game right after," head coach Yeng Guiao said.
"I guess It's still kind of surreal seeing ourselves around the top of the standings. Beating a good team like Meralco with the best import, parang we’re still doing a reality check," he added.
Import Aaron Fuller once again delivered the goods for the Road Warriors, going for 25 points, 18 rebounds, and two blocks.
Kevin Alas remained as NLEX's top local the junior guard continued his inspired play, finishing with 21 points, 11 coming in the final quarter. Larry Fonacier added 16 points on top of seven rebounds, and two assists.
Despite missing the services of Cliff Hodge due to injury, Meralco was able to control the game right from the tip only to lose steam in the clutch, a rare occurence in this conference.
Allen Durham powered the Bolts offense with 26 points while Reynel Hugnatan added 25.
