The curse of Brgy. Ginebra
"The problem with Ginebra is that – in all honesty – everyone’s a rival of Ginebra." --- Tim Cone.
Meralco seeing Ginebra as a bitter rival is nothing new on the part of the Gin Kings.
That's because the barangay has more than a handful of bitter rivals in the PBA.
"The problem with Ginebra is that – in all honesty – everyone’s a rival of Ginebra," head coach Tim Cone said.
"Everybody looks at Ginebra differently from the other teams, so we’re the rival of Talk ‘N Text; we’re the rival of San Miguel; we’re the rival of Manila Clasico; rival of Alaska, so we take on all-comers," he added.
With the rematch of the Governors' Cup Finals in place, the main storyline is that the no. 1 Bolts are coming after the champs, ready to finish what they failed to do last year when Ginebra won its first title in eight years following "The Shot."
Everyone seems to take their best shot facing the Gin Kings and it's just a challenge the team has to embrace night in and night out.
"That’s just the beauty of being Ginebra – is that you are that team and you have that stature – and also the curse – because everybody’s going to bring their best against you," Cone said.
"Hopefully we can play well," he added.
Brgy. Ginebra starts its title defense against Meralco on Friday with Game 1 of the 2017 Governors' Cup Finals at Lucena in Quezon Province.
