Orcollo, 4 Pinoys in World 9-ball Last 64

Former world champion Dennis Orcollo and four other Pinoy cue artists advanced in the knockout stage of the WPA World 9-Ball Championship at Al Arabi Sports Club in Doha, Qatar Monday night.
Coming off a dominating win in his first match in the group stage, Orcollo toppled Bangladesh bet Sayeem Hosain, 9-6, to barge in the Last 64.
Joining Orcollo, the Singapore Southeast Asian Games’ men’s 9-ball gold medal winner, are Raymund Faraon, Carlo Biado, Jeffrey Ignacio and Antonio Gabica.
Faraon defeated Pordel Mohammadali of Iran, 9-4; Biado nipped Daniele Corrieri of Italy, 9-5; Ignacio took a 9-6 victory over Canadian Jason Klatt while Gabica trumped Fahim Sinha of Bangladesh, 9-6.
Other Filipino bets are still making their bid to catch a ride to the next round coming from the loser’s bracket.
Oliver Medenilla, Warren Kiamco, Johann Gonzales Chua, Lee Van Corteza, and Qatar-based Francisco Felicilda need to win their last match to join their compatriots in the knockout stage.
They are set to hit the pool table Tuesday afternoon.
