Philippines rally past Russia in World Cup of Pool
Gilas Pilipinas is not the only Philippine team to win today as the pair of Warren Kiamco and Carlo Biado edged Russia over at the World Cup of Pool.
It is a good day for Team Philippines as the country notched another win against international competition, this time in billiards as the pair of Warren Kiamco and Carlo Biado scored a 7-4 win over Russia at the 2015 World cup of Pool in London.
After the Russian tandem of of Ruslan Chinakhov and Kunstantin Stepanov won two straight racks to start their first round matchup, the Filipinos unloaded six straight wins to seize control of the race-to-seven showdown.
Russia would win a pair of games again to cut the deficit, 4-6, but Kiamco and Biado would close it out in the next rack.
"Hindi pa kasi namin kabisado yung competition table na ibang-iba sa practice table namin," Biado said as he revealed they felt some of the nerves after the Russians raced to a 2-0 lead.
The Philippines have won three championships in the World Cup of Pool dating back to its inception in 2006.
2013 was the last time the country won it all thanks to Dennis Orcollo and Lee Van Corteza.
The Philippines will face the winner between Sweden and defending champion England tomorrow.
