Another Pinoy boxer could be crowned world champion before week's end, as Genesis "Azukal" Servania challenges reigning WBO world featherweight champion Oscar Valdez for the title on Friday, September 22nd in Tucson, Arizona.
A former member of the famed ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu, the 26-year old Servania (29-0, 12 KO) made a name for himself under the Pinoy Pride series, capturing WBO Asia-Pacific and Inter-Continental titles and putting together an impressive unbeaten record.
Servania parted ways with ALA Boxing following his final Pinoy Pride appearance back in 2015.
Since then, Servania continued his winning ways, scoring three-straight wins in Japan, and in his last outing, capturing the vacant WBO Asia Pacific featherweight championship and earning a world title opportunity.
The last hurdle on his way to world championship gold won't be an easy one to overcome however, as the reigning champion Valdez has ruled the WBO featherweight division since 2016, and has defended his championship twice since.
The 26-year old native of Sonora, Mexico boasts a 22-0 professional record, with 19 wins coming via knockout.
Valdez holds notable wins over the likes of Chris Avalos, Evegny Gradovich, and most recently Miguel Marriaga.
