Football for a Better Life (FFABL), the grassroots football program supported by Bristih life insurer Pru Life UK, had its fourth leg for the year in Laguna over the weekend. Football clinics and tournaments were held at Sta. Cruz Sports Center with about 50 football teams and clubs from all over Laguna as participants.

Former Azkals team captain Chieffy Caligdong  gave free football clinics and supervised the tournaments. He was assisted by homegrown players Jim Ashley “Azuli” Flores who is part of the Men’s National Team and Nicolai Abalos of the U14 Training Pool. Flores is from Cavinti, Laguna, while Abalos is from Calamba, Laguna.

“The recent FFABL leg in Laguna is perhaps the first time we were able to gather the past, present and future Azkals in the persons of Chieffy, Ashley, and Nicolai, respectively,” says FFABL organizer Albert Almendralejo of SPEARS Activation and PR. “The presence of all the three at the event reiterates the program’s thrust for continous development of football in our country.”

The event marked the first time that Flores, also a player of Stallions FC, joined Football for a Better Life. He was particularly thrilled to be teaching kids at the San Luis Sports Complex in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, the very place where he learned how to play football and participated in several matches. “Doon talaga ako naglalaro noonpara sa mga DepEd (Department of Education) meets.”

To boys and girls who want to pursue football in college and professionally, Flores offers this advice, “Magkaroon ng dedication at love para sa sport. Basta wiling maglaro, maraming matutunan.”

The FFABL leg in Laguna had matches for the U10, U12, U14 Boys and Ladies’ Open categories.

The next Football for a Better Life leg will be held on October 29-30 in Tagum, Davao del Norte.
