Global Cebu advances to Singapore Cup semis
Paolo Salenga scored thrice in two matches to lead Global Cebu FC into the 2017 RHB Singapore Cup semifinals.
Filipino club Global Cebu FC did enough to get past Cambodia's Boeung Ket Angkor and head back to the 2017 RHB Singapore Cup semifinals.
Former UAAP star Paolo Salenga, who scored twice in the first leg of the quarterfinals, had the magic touch once again, Friday evening at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore scoring the lone goal for Global Cebu.
Salenga, who has scored thrice in the last two matches, struck early again for the Pinoy side, getting on the boards in just four minutes of action.
Down by three goals on aggregate, Boeung Ket Angkor fought hard in the second leg, hitting two goals courtesy of Khoun Laboravy in the tenth minute and Paul Omogba in the 65th minute to trim the Global Cebu aggregate advantage.
Fortunately for Global Cebu, Boeung Ket could not come up with an equalizing goal, and while they lose 2-1 in the second leg, they manage to preserve their 4-3 aggregate lead and break through to the next round.
This is Global's first trip back to the Singapore Cup semis since 2015, after being trounced by the Tampines Rovers in the quarterfinals in last year's tournament.
'The People's Club' now await the winner of the quarterfinals matchup between Singapore's Hougang United and Cambodia's Nagaworld
