NCR maintains medal lead as swim star Ilustre now undefeated in three years
YOU ARE PERFECT. Sacho Ilustre has won all 21 of the swimming events in the Palarong Pambansa he entered in the last three years.
SAN JOSE, ANTIQUE – For the third year in a row, Sacho Ilustre is perfect in the Palarong Pambansa
Now having won gold medals in all seven swimming events he entered, Ilustre proved to still be a big reason for the National Capital Region’s dominance in the 2017 national meet.
The UAAP MVP wound up his Palaro career with yet another gold medal 200m freestyle in Day 6. “It feels really good that I was able to repeat again seven-of-seven,” he said.
In the last three years, Ilustre has not lost a single swimming event.
Complimenting such dominance, fellow De La Salle Zobel tanker Nikki Pamintuan also wrapped up her national meet campaign in perfection.
Seizing wins in 200m freestyle and 4x100 freestyle, NCR’s other UAAP MVP went six-of-six for this year.
Metro Manila now has a whopping 93 gold medals and 199 total medals – very well poised to claim another overall championship.
A distant second is CALABARZON which now has 146 total medals built on 37 golds.
Region IV-A has long had the most total medals after NCR, but has taken until now to break through to the second spot.
Dragged down from there is host region Western Visayas which has 36 golds, but trails in terms of total medals with 98.
SOCCSKSARGEN (26-22-34), CAR (26-18-20), Negros (23-23-35), Davao (22-23-23), Northern Mindanao (19-20-41), Central Visayas (17-15-27), Central Luzon (13-17-25) round out the top 10.
With only one competition day to go, all 18 regions have made a mark on the column for gold medals.
The Palarong Pambansa’s seventh and final day will feature the championship games of the basketball, football, and volleyball tournaments.
