Lady Warriors out to continue win streak
Pocari Sweat is in search for its sixth straight win.
Pocari Sweat looks to strengthen its bid for an outright semifinals berth as the streaking Lady Warriors faceoff with dangerous BaliPure Thursday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The multi-titled Pocari Sweat is waxing-hot after a five-game romp for a 5-2 win-loss record at solo top spot.
Aside from extending their winning run to six, the Lady Warriors want to exact revenge of the Purest Water Defenders in their 4:00 p.m. game that will air via livestream.
Pocari Sweat absorbed a 23-25, 22-25, 14-25, defeat at the hands of BaliPure in their first meeting last May 4 that handed the Lady Warriors their second loss in the tournament.
Pocari Sweat head coach Rommel Abella said that they learned a tough lesson in their encounter.
“Nakita namin kung saan kami nagkulang (from last game) kaya yung ang pinunan namin sa training,” said Abella, whose squad is fresh from a character-building, 25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 18-25, 15-3 win against the Perlas Spikers Tuesday.
Abella will bank on Myla Pablo, Elaine Kasilag, Jeanette Panaga and libero Melissa Gohing to lead Pocari Sweat’s revenge attempt.
The Water Defenders are at solo second spot with a 4-1 slate and are coming off a 26-24, 17-25, 25-23, 28-26, win over the Alyssa Valdez-led Creamline.
Young hitters Grethcel Soltones, Jerrili Malabanan, Risa Sato, Aiko Urdas and top setter Jasmine Nabor will carry BaliPure’s fight for a repeat.
Meanwhile, Philippine Air Force (1-1) and Philippine Army (2-1) collide at 1:00 p.m. in the men’s division.
