Lady Warriors looking to rest Pablo until the end of prelims
We will rest her for the rest of the preliminary round and tingnan natin kung makakabalik siya sa semis at the earliest -- Pocari Sweat team manager Eric Ty on injured Myla Pablo
Pocari Sweat management is looking at resting top hitter Myla Pablo for the remainder of the preliminary round of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.
Team manager Atty. Eric Ty in a phone interview told ABS-CBN Sports that Pablo aggravated a lingering back spasm.
The National University product was rushed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center after going down in pain after a crosscourt kill that tied the second set at 11 in the Lady Warriors’ match against BaliPure at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan Thursday.
The Lady Warriors won a dramatic 18-25, 20-25, 26-24, 27-25, 15-13, come-from-behind decision that extended Pocari Sweat’s winning streak to six after eight games.
“Her X-rays are OK pero may mga contu-contusion lang,” said Ty, who added that Pablo was already discharged and joined her teammates in their victory dinner.
“They gave her painkillers but yung pain niya sa likod will linger and she will need extensive rest and therapy,” added Ty. “Pero matapang itong bata kasi sabi niya she will play through pain, ang problema ayoko. Hindi kasi biro ang injury niya sa likod kasi kita naman kanina ‘yung pain niya.”
“We will rest her for the rest of the preliminary round and tingnan natin kung makakabalik siya sa semis at the earliest,” the Lady Warriors official continued.
The preliminary round will end on May 25. The top two teams at the end of the prelims will advance outright in the best-of-three semis while the lower four will play a round robin quarterfinals.
Ty said that Pablo insisted, despite her condition, to see action on Saturday against the Alyssa Valdez-led Creamline.
“Sinabi niya sa akin na gusto niya talagang maglaro. Sabi ko nga sa kanya na sige kung gusto mo service specialist, pero paano mo naman gagawin yun kung di mo nga maiangat ang kamay mo,” he said.
Worried about her team, Ty mentioned that Pablo refused to enter the X-Ray room until after the game.
“Nanonood kasi kami ng game sa livestream. Ayaw pa niyang pumasok hangga’t di pa natatapos ang game,” said Ty. “Itong si Myla talagang mahal na mahal niya ang team kahit na ganyan ang kondisyon niya kanina.”
Pablo is averaging 15.7 points per game.
