Cool Smashers near consolation third place trophy
Creamline steamrolled past Philippine Air Force to move closer to a third place finish.
Creamline arrested a two-game slide and inched closer to salvaging a third place trophy after sweeping Philippine Air Force, 25-16, 25-21, 25-19, Saturday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Cool Smashers took the best-of-three series lead, 1-0, in just 73 minutes of action.
Pau Soriano and Rosemarie Vargas scored 11 points each while Best Setter winner Jia Morado dished out 34 excellent sets for Creamline, which came from a sorry straight sets loss against finalist BaliPure Wednesday in the best-of-three semifinals series decider.
Cesca Racraquin and Rizza Mandapat added eight points each for the Cool Smashers, who won their first eight straight games including the semis series opener before dropping two in a row to miss out of the Finals for the second consecutive conference.
Game 2 is on Wednesday.
The Jet Spikers were never in the game as Creamline took control of the whole match.
May Ann Pantino finished with seven while Best Opposite Spiker Iari Yongco was limited to only six points in Air Force’s third straight defeat.
The Jet Spikers won the semis series opener in sweeping fashion against Reinforced Conference champion Pocari Sweat but were turned back by the Lady Warriors in the next two.
