6 things we love about Jordan Clarkson
Our kababayan currently playing for the Lakers is definitely growing on us. (Photos taken from Clarkson's Instagram account: @jclark5on)
If not for that slightly snide light-skinned-versus-dark-skinned-shot comparison reportedly derived from what Kobe Bryant had taught him, Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson would have earned more sympathies when he made that sweet slam dunk over a game they had won against the Phoenix Suns recently. We definitely love how he’s making a name for himself, though, and, of course, a big part of it is that he’s—tada—Filipino!
Here are some things that make us think the Lakers guard is one superstar in the making!
1. He loves his Filipino roots.
Duh. Clarkson never tried concealing his Filipino origins (his mother is Pampangueña), and was, instead, very proud of it. At the FIBA Asia Basketball Championships last year, he was supposed to suit up for Gilas but would meet conflicts in his schedule. Feeling “disappointed,” he wrote a letter to Filipino fans who he said “are some of the most passionate in the world.” He even promised to make up if the Philippines won the bid to host one of the three wild card qualifiers for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro,
PS He even sent his congratulations to our recently crowned Miss Universe. Because #relevant.

2. He’s (easily) a poster boy.
Drafted 46 in the NBA, Clarkson has definitely come a long way and has now become one of Lakers’ star players. (In an interview with The OC Register, the Lakers’ Coach Byron Scott has commended Clarkson for his “unbelievable athleticism” with great sense of defense on top of obvious flair in offense. He was also part of the NBA All-Rookie 1st team last year.) And it helps that, at 22, he’s fit and good-looking, too. Those TV guestings, photo shoots, and an endorsement for a local telecomm brand clearly attest to it.
3. He’s got swag.
Have you checked out his Instagram lately? Dude’s got serious style sensibilities you’d usually associate with Derrick Rose, LeBron James, or Chris Paul.
4. He’s got love for his fans.
Thanks to social media, Clarkson has had no problems receiving the wave of support from fans. Guess what, he’s one who knows how to say thanks!

5. He’s such a character online!
Speaking of social media, he can be such a follow-able personality judging from his Twitter and Instagram accounts. From posting hilarious #TBT photos of him to tweeting random words in reverse to sending out messages that are hashtagged with a cause, Clarkson represents the knowledgeable, socially responsive, aggressive yet annoying millennial!

6. He’s such a stud.
Clarkson’s got two words for us: Chanel Iman. He and the Victoria’s Secret model have been an item since last year, and that’s all there is that. Sigh.
