NO DIETS: now at 40, Piolo Pascual reveals his secrets to keeping fit

Piolo Pascual may just be the personification of the phrase '40 is the new 20'.

It may not look like it, but Kapamilya star and well-known sports buff Piolo Pascual just turned 40 years old today.

But it can be argued that the guy who has become synonymous to a modern-day Adonis in the eyes of Filipinos and has graced our screens over the years, still looks and feels like he’s in his prime.

And more astonishing is that completing a full, 42-kilometer marathon is still in his bucket list, and it may not be that hard to root for him to reach that goal.

So what are his secrets?

 

HE CAN’T STAY STILL

Well, for starters, he was supposed to run a full marathon before he turned 40, but a missed landing while playing badminton (one of his favorite sports to play with his son Iñigo) sidelined him for a while. 

But even with the slight injury, he still squeezes in a workout from time to time, "I  was told to rest it but I'd never listen, I just, I can't stay still," he said in an interview with ABS-CBN Sports.

 

‘IT’S NOT A CHORE’

He also revealed that he doesn't consider working out a nuisance, he just finds ways to help him continue the active lifestyle he has already embraced.

"I work out everyday, first thing I do upon waking up, after I pray, after I shower, I take my pre-workout, I hit the gym. If I'm going straight to work I bring my dumbbells with me," he said. 

He just tries to find time to squeeze in a quick workout, even if its between his shows'  takes. "Even in ASAP I bring my dumbbells, when I'm waiting for live, I lift weights, I do a lot of floor exercises, it's part of my lifestyle, it's not a chore."

"It's not an effort for me to juggle my time between work or physical activities, you can marry it, you can juggle it just as long as you know how to handle or how to balance your time."

 

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE

For most adults, being active ends well before the ripe age of 40, but if you ask Piolo, he'll tell you otherwise.

"You're not young forever, for you to stay long, to have that longevity and to always look your best you got to do something about it, so, I decided to just take up sports and stay active," Piolo said.

With his mind set in keeping his body and his image in tip-top shape, everything just falls into place.

I don't find an excuse, as they say, 'Kung gusto may paraan, kung ayaw, may dahilan'. So I live by that and I know we only got one life to live, make it work, make it count, make everyday count."

 

NOPE, NO DIETS

Contrary to what you may think, Piolo must adhere to a strict, complex diet to let him workout as much as he doest, right? 

No, he doesn’t. Nor adhere to rigorous diets, or any diet, in fact. 

"I eat everything that's why I wanna workout. I want to be able to award myself for all the hard work I take on, so I eat everything,” Piolo bared, “I just work out more, and indulge in food, he said "whenever I can eat, I eat, and whenever I [can] workout, I workout."

That's right, he just eats what he wants, and works out harder to strike a balance between enjoying food and being physically fit.

"Whenever I have free time, I wanna use that time to be able to be more physically fit, to being good to exercise more so I can sweat out the toxins from my body," Piolo said.

And true to his word, even after the interview, he already had a day's worth of working out and being Piolo Pascual waiting for him:

"After this I'm playing badminton for two hours. If I can squeeze in an hour of run, I step out of my condo and I run for 10k and if I have more time I’ll swim, I’ll bike,” he said.
