Tennis Fans: Donít Miss the WTA Finals Live this October in Singapore!
We donít always get the opportunity to hold sporting events of this magnitude in Southeast Asia.
The greatest athletes in women’s tennis will all converge and compete in Singapore for one of the sport’s most prestigious events—the WTA Finals. The highly anticipated event will be held in the iconic Singapore Sports Hub on October 22 to 29.
As of this writing, six singles competitors have officially secured their slots: Garbiñe Muguruza, Karolina Pliskova, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina, Caroline Wozniacki, and Venus Williams. Currently, Jelena Ostapenko, who won her first hardcourt title in Seoul recently, is in seventh place. Johanna Konta is holding on to her eighth spot after being forced to pull out of the Hong Kong Open due to a foot injury. Kristina Mladenovic, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Coco Vandeweghe will try to vie for the coveted position, but it’s Wuhan Open champion Caroline Garcia who currently has the momentum to nab it. As for the doubles, four duos are already in the final eight: Elena Vesnina/Ekaterina Makarova, Casey Dellacqua/Ashleigh Barty, and Lucie Hradecka/Katrina Siniakova. It’s already a star-studded field, and we’ll see in the next few days who’ll complete the rest of the spots.
We don’t always get the opportunity to hold sporting events of this magnitude in Southeast Asia. And in 2018, Singapore enters its final year of hosting the WTA Finals. Our region has been host to the event since 2014, so the chances of it being moved to a western continent in the succeeding years is highly likely. This makes it even more of a must-see event for fans of the sport.
Aside from the WTA Finals, there will be other notable events happening in Singapore come the tail end of October. On top of the list is the one-night-only return of one of the most popular boy bands of all time, the Backstreet Boys! They perform on the 21st, a day before the start of the WTA Finals. Earlier on that day, you can also pay a visit to Keong Saik Road and join an urban street party with plenty of food, drinks, music, and poetry to go around. Artisan markets filled with lovely trinkets will be on display, and you can even do sunset beer yoga (yes, you read that right—you can drink beer while doing yoga). The Singapore Fashion Week also returns to the Lion City on October 26-28 with even more stunning designer debuts and high-profile names gracing the event. And since the season of scares is upon us, Universal Studios Singapore will be home to frightening attractions for Halloween Horror Nights. There will be five haunted houses to navigate, zombie laser tag, spine-chilling live shows, and roving creatures that will make you scream!
So when you fly to Singapore on the last week of October, you won’t just get to watch stellar tennis action live and see the next WTA champion. With a once-in-a-lifetime concert, fashion week, street parties, and Halloween Horror Nights to complement the WTA Finals, you’ll definitely have a smashing time in the Lion City.
