Don't discount CDC winners just because UP didn't join
"People can speculate kung nandiyan yan o wala yan diyan, they can all give their speculations pero hanggang speculations lang yun. Maganda kung next year sasali sila [UP], masaya na ulit kasi kumpleto kami." --- FEU Cheering Squad head coach Randell San Gregorio.
People can say everything they want online about UP not joining the 2016 UAAP Cheerdance Competition but that's all there is to it.
While the Diliman-based Pep Squad has their own valid reasons on skipping this year's extravaganza, it's unfair to discount the credit given to the seven remaining teams. They put in the work after all.
"I respect their opinion, pero parang I respect their opinion and at the same time I respect and love the sport. Yun yung desisyon nila eh [UP]. Kung di sila sumali, rerespetuhin dapat ng tao yun," FEU head coach Randell San Gregorio said.
"Pero porket hindi sila sumali, we will take away yung dun sa pito," he added.
The second-year FEU mentor, whose team made a triumphant return to the top 3 after three years, acknowledged that the UAAP Cheerdance Competition is not the same without the University of the Philippines. However, as the old saying goes, the show must go on for the seven remaining pep squads.
"Kasi syempre isang school lang naman UP eh, hindi kumpleto yung UAAP ng wala sila pero the show must go on and we still have seven. And yung seven naman, nag-deliver ng magandang show. Kung yun yung opinion nila I respect that," San Gregorio told ABS-CBN Sports regarding his thoughts on UP and to the people who may put an asterisk on their victory just because State U decided not to join this year.
Ever the competitor, San Gregorio would still have preferred to have UP in the field of teams this year, even if there was a chance that they would have lost.
But since UP didn't perform, it can be argued that FEU would have still placed number 2 and NU would have still won a four-peat even if the eight-time CDC champions were present.
"Of course, kumbaga kung halimbawa nag-third kami, nag-second sila, okay lang. UP yun eh. Kung nanalo sila over us, okay lang din," San Gregorio said.
"People can speculate kung nandiyan yan o wala yan diyan, they can all give their speculations pero hanggang speculations lang yun. Maganda kung next year sasali sila [UP], masaya na ulit kasi kumpleto kami," he added.
