THE PROCESS WORKED: Tams fast-track return to elite status
TAKING IT SLOW NO MORE. The FEU Cheering Squad is back in the list of UAAP's elite teams after winning second place in the 2016 Cheerdance Competition.
The process worked.
Far Eastern University's return to the UAAP's elite was fast-tracked Sunday as the Tamaraws won 1st runner-up in the 2016 Cheerdance Competition at the Big Dome.
While they already mentioned that they're not going to rush the process of winning another medal, the FEU Cheering Squad will take their brand-new award and run away with it even if it means more pressure for next year.
They earned it after all.
"Syempre mas may pressure yun [winning second place]. Of course everyone wants the top spot di ba, pero yun nga since it's a process, hindi mo kailangan madaliin," head coach Randell San Gregorio told ABS-CBN Sports.
"Dahil second yung binigay samin, parang mas may pressure siya tuloy pero kumbaga, I'd choose the pressure anytime kesa hindi kami magplace," he added.
Three years since they last made it to the podium, FEU appeared to be in trouble after a broadway-themed performance was marred by a couple of errors.
It looked so bad from the onset that San Gregorio didn't bother finishing the rest of the competition, expecting another lost campaign.
"Honestly hindi na ako nage-expect eh. After our performance di ko na nga pinanood yung ibang teams. Parang yung frustration ko, nawalan na ako ng gana manood," the second year head coach said.
"Syempre I feel bad for my team, hindi ako nanood dahil hindi ako sport pero you have to understand, 6-8 months namin to pinaghandaan eh. Tapos yung mga error namin kanina, never nangyari yun sa practice so parang hinayaan ko na lang. Parang sige kung ibibigay, ibibigay, kung hindi okay lang," San Gregogorio added.
Fortunately for the Tamaraws, a second place finish was awarded to the FEU Cheering Squad, making their move to balance everything out worth it.
"I give credit to the kids, kasi sila naman yung tumatangap nung mga pointers eh. In short sla yung nasisigawan, napapagalitan, just to make it happen. I give it all to them," San Gregorio said.
