In just one year, Ateneo’s Sotto grows two inches to stand at 6’11”
KATIPUNAN TOWER. When his story went viral in 2015, Kai Sotto was "just" 6'9". Now a year after, he stands 6'11" - and still growing.
There are not that many Filipinos who can claim to be taller – or even come close – than three-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo.
One of those few, just so happens to be a 14-year-old.
Kai Sotto, Ateneo de Manila High School’s prized prospect, is now listed at six-feet and 11-inches. Yes, that’s one inch taller than San Miguel’s franchise player who stands at 6’10”, according to FIBA.
The UAAP 79 Juniors Rookie of the Year and NBTC All-Star confirmed the development himself. “Totoo po. Nung sinukat namin, 6’11” talaga,” he said, talking about the biometrics done by the league.
What’s more, Sotto said he believes he is still growing. “’Di pa ‘to yung dulo,” he expressed in between chuckles.
A year after being discovered in the Jr. NBA, the towering teen impressed in the recently-concluded UAAP season with per game counts of 4.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks. His late emergence completed an already formidable lineup for the Blue Eaglets.
That is exactly why Sotto is already being regarded to be among the best young talent, as shown by his selection as a first-time NBTC All-Star.
Still, the youngster has been taken aback by how far he has come. “Masaya ako, pero nagulat din dahil ‘di ko pa masyado in-expect ‘to,” he expressed.
