After Finals loss, NU's Dante Alinsunurin looks ahead to next season
For the second straight game, National University pushed Ateneo de Manila to the brink, and for the second straight game, the Bulldogs painfully came up short, as the Blue Eagles clinched their third-straight UAAP men's volleyball crown, Saturday afternoon at the Araneta Coliseum.
Game two eeriely played out very similary to game one, with NU taking a 2-1 set lead, before giving up sets four and five to Ateneo. The final fifth-set score for both games: 15-13.
So painfully close.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, there's no chance for redemption anymore. Not this season, at least.
"Ibig sabihin, talagang kulang pa rin hanggang dulo." said NU head coach Dante Alinsunurin after the match. "Yung kumpyansa, nandoon na eh. Talagang imemaintain namin, doon kami nagkulang."
Alinsunrin says that lapses in late-game decision making that did them in.
"Yung game plan, nagtulungan talaga at naging maayos.
Alinsunurin continued.
Looking ahead to next season, Alinsunurin hopes that his boys learn a thing or two from their valiant campaign.
Alinsunurin added that one of the things that Ateneo has going for them is the presence of a go-to-guy in four-time MVP Marck Espejo, something that he'd like NU to develop for next year.
With only middle blocker Ruben Baysac graduating, Alinsunurin and the NU Bulldogs are again primed to be contenders next season, especially with a relatively intact core.
Alinsunurin and the Bulldogs hope to finally fill in the gaps and make the jump to the next level in Season 80.
