‘Gin-hinyero’ Jett Manuel says thank you to UP with chicken and pizza

Jett Manuel says thank you to UP with chicken and pizza
NEVER SAY DIE. Now a part of the PBA's most popular team, Jett Manuel took some time to give thanks to the people who helped make it happen.

Instead of “UP Fight,” Jett Manuel should now get used to chants of “GI-NE-BRA!”

The one-time University of the Philippines main man was selected 12th overall in the recently-concluded 2017 PBA Draft.

He is the first Fighting Maroon in recent memory to be selected in the first round of the rookie selection process.

Manuel’s per game counts of 9.8 points in 34.8 percent shooting on top of 2.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in his five years in State U do not necessarily scream first-rounder.

However, his averages of 15 points in 40.3 percent shooting on top of 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in their feel-good 5-9 Season 79 as well as his strong stints in Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas and the Draft Combine were more than enough to prove his worth to the Gin Kings.

And so, from representing the longtime underdogs of the UAAP, Manuel will now be playing for the most popular team in the PBA.

Of course, the now 24-year-old has not forgotten that his PBA dream came true because of what he did in UP and the UAAP.

That is why Manel went out of his way to visit the Fighting Maroons after their practice on Friday, bringing them food as well as his usual big smile.

“I always believed that if you don’t know how to look back on where you came from, (you) might as well be blind,” he shared in an Instagram post. “Okay, I just made that up. Even so, a few days after I just got drafted, I had to pass by and say thanks to the family that helped my get (to) where I’m at today – through pizza and chicken, of course. This goes out to the UP community also.”

He then concluded, “#UPFight always.”

Indeed, #UPFight always, Jett Manuel. And from now on, #NeverSayDie.
