CSB star Panaga joins Pocari Sweat
Jeanette Panaga will don the Pocari Sweat jersey in the 14th V-League.
Pocari Sweat continued with its recruitment coup, adding another experienced player in its already loaded roster.
The Lady Warriors tapped former College of St. Benilde standout Jeanette Panaga for the team’s campaign to protect their Reinforced Conference title in the 14th V-League starting April.
Panaga, who won NCAA’s Season 91 Finals Most Valuable Player award in the team’s breakthrough title last year, transferred from the Philippine Superliga where she played for Cignal.
“About joining Pocari, I decided to join them kasi una, noon palang kinakausap na nila ako even my family and they have really shown so much interest and sincerity sa pagkuha sa akin,” said the middle blocker.
Panaga, which is expected to slide to opposite, joins the crack Lady Warriors crew led by power-hitter Myla Pablo, Elaine Kasilag, Desiree Dadang and libero Melissa Gohing. She is the latest addition in the team that already has former PSL players Fille Cainglet-Cayetano and Jessey De Leon.
Her recruitment also serves as a reunion for her, Pablo and Gohing, who all played in the national team that saw action in the AVC Asian Women’s Seniors Volleyball Championship in China two years ago.
“’Yung mga magiging teammates ko dun nakasama ko na din ‘yung iba before sa AVC so magaan din on my part na di ako total stranger sa pupuntahan kong team,” Panaga added.
The Lady Warriors head into their second season in the league as title favorites with their intact core despite the departure of team captain Michele Gumabao.
“That's one thing that made me decide also to join them. They are a champion team,” said Panaga. “And gusto ko masama sa team na champion hindi lang sa skills, pero ‘yung champion sa puso talaga and maganda kasi ‘yung nakikita kong character ng team kapag pinapanood ko sila. So I want to be a part of that.”
