Valdez banners V-League newcomer Creamline
Alyssa Valdez will suit up for new team Creamline for the 14th V-League.
Former Ateneo de Manila University star Alyssa Valdez banners newcomer Creamline Cool Smashers in the 14th V-League Reinforced Conference starting April.
Valdez, who flew back to the country Saturday to attend the national team tryouts in Davao and for a brief visit, will join the team after her stint in the Thai League where she plays for 3BB Nakornnont.
The squad was unveiled Sunday night after the three-time league Most Valuable Player visited and watched her former Lady Eagles teammates defeat the erstwhile unbeaten University of the Philippines in straight sets in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
Valdez, who played for runner up Bureau of Customs in the last edition of the import-laced conference, will team up with veterans and rising stars to give defending champions Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors a run for their money.
Joining the 23-year-old hitter are former Adamson players Pau Soriano and Janet Serafica, Perpetual Help’s Coleen Bravo and Jamela Suyat, ex-University of the Philippines player and teammate of Valdez in the 2008 Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship Joyce Palad, Ivy Remulla, former Ateneo player Aerieal Patnongon and NCAA Season 92 Rookie of the Year Francesca Racraquin of San Beda.
Handling the team is Ateneo women’s coach Tai Bundit with Blue Eagles mentor Oliver Almadro as assistant.
Creamline is one of the top title contenders to challenge the reign of Pocari Sweat.
BaliPure, another former team of Valdez, will be back while three more teams will join the field of the season-opening conference.
