Marano hosts block party in F2 Logistics win
Abigail Marano of F2 Logistics blocks Foton's American hitter Lindsay Stalzer.
IMUS CITY – F2 Logistics hosted a block party and Aby Marano hogged the spotlight as the Cargo Movers snapped the defending champion Foton Tornadoes’ winning run with a 25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 26-24 victory in the 2016 PSL Grand Prix at the Imus City Sports Complex here.
Marano wowed the crowd with her superb defensive effort at the net, amassing eight kill blocks in the All-Filipino Conference champions’ total of 16 to stop Foton’s string of six victories.
Without the Tornadoes’ 6-foot-5 middle hitter Jaja Santiago, who is still in Japan to train with National University, leading the attack, the Cargo Movers took advantage to improve their record to 5-3.
American Hayley Spelman masterminded the attack, firing 19 kills to finish with 23 points for F2 Logistics. Marano scored 16 while her former De La Salle teammates Ara Galang and Mika Reyes chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively.
"Gusto talagang manalo ng mga bata," said F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus. "Wala naman kaming ginawang bago, naging maayos ang training. Talagang ginusto lang manalo ng mga bata."
Americans Lindsay Stalzer and Ariel Usher spearheaded Foton with 23 and 21 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, RC Cola-Army dominated Cignal, 25-13, 25-15, 25-10, for a 3-4 slate.
Skipper Jovelyn Gonzaga, who campaigned in the AVC Asian Women’s Club Championship and FIVB Women’s Club World Championship that the country both hosted recently, had 16 points while Honey Royse Tubino and import Hailey Ripley chipped in nine and eight markers, respectively.
Cignal dropped to 1-5.
