BVR regulars dominate pool play at Cabugao Beach

It's the new year but same old faces dominate the Beach Volleyball Republic.
Stakeholders Charo Soriano and Bea Tan breezed through Day 1 of the Cabugao Beach leg of BVR on Tour Friday, topping their group with a clean 2-0 slate to make the quarterfinals set for tomorrow.
The dream BVR tandem took care of Yna Papa and Jhemill Abadilla of Air Force in their first match before sweeping Coast Guard's Grenlen Malapit and Elaine Juanillo to cap their day at Bracket B.
Also through to the next round without a scratch is the team of stakeholder Dzi Gervacio and BVR regular Jackie Estoquia.
The pair topped Bracket A after beating Cherry and Mary Ann Catuban from the University of Baguio and RTU's Jessa Aranda and Alarnie Pesebre.
Despite losing to the BVR regulars though, Air Force (Papa/Abadilla) and RTU (Aranda/Pesebra) still made the cut to the quarterfinals, however, they would have to wait for the top teams from Bracket C and Bracket D respectively.
Speaking of Bracket C and Bracket D, the pair of Fille Cainglet-Cayetano and Melissa Gohing won its lone match of the day against Maciejczyk Candido and Cielo Palahang.
The Ateneo-La Salle tandem now go for Bracket C's top spot tomorrow against Mae Crisostomo and Mickaela Andres of Air Force.
In Bracket D, the team of Coyah Abanto and Jocemer Tapic will dispute the group's top seed against Jonafer San Pedro and Abegail Nuval tomorrow. Both pairs are 1-0 after taking care of Cecilia Bangad and Kassie Gormley in their opening match.
In men's play, Ralph Dablo and Joshua Barrica emerged as early leaders of the 10-team field after winning taking two wins in as many games.
Cabugao Beach in Ilocos Sur is the first stop of BVR on Tour 2017. Winner for both the women's and men's divisions take a grand prize of P40,000 each.
