Mika Reyes leads Team Blue past Team Red in Clash of Heroes
Mika Reyes and Team Blue prevailed over the Jaja Santiago-led Team Red.
Head coach Francis Vicente appreciated the presence of 15 national women’s volleyball team aspirants led by Mika Reyes and Jaja Santiago in the Clash of Heroes event at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan Monday.
“I do appreciate those players na ang focus nila is for the country,” said Vicente after the fund-raising event for the benefit of the national team’s training in Japan and Korea in July as part of the buildup for the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 19-30.
Reyes and Frances Molina led the assault of the Team Blue as it outlasted Santiago’s Team Red, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15, 15-10.
Petron star Molina scored 20 points anchored on 17 attacks while Reyes had 17 markers coming off 10 kills, four aces and three kill blocks for Team Blue. Shaya Adorador added 13 markers.
“Very appreciative ako sa kanila sa resulta, na nandito sila lalo na kay Mika,” said Vicente. “Alam natin na busy rin ito pero nandito. Humahanga ako sa ganyang mga player na binibigyan ng time yung kapag sinabi mong for flag they’re there to support the flag.”
Santiago finished with 19 for Team Red while Gen Casugod, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Ria Meneses, who was converted to an open hitter, scored eight markers each.
Vicente, his coaching staff and Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. will deliberate the composition of the 18-woman roster and will announce the names within the week.
The mentor cleared that those who failed to participate the event are still welcome to join the national team within the one-week window before their announcement.
