When former UAAP champion and MVP and number-two overall pick Kiefer Ravena makes his PBA debut on Wednesday, it’s going to be with a brand new team in the NLEX Road Warriors.
Fortunately for Ravena, it won’t all be unfamiliar territory, as he reunites with a number of familiar faces.
In NLEX, Ravena will be teaming up once again with former Ateneo Blue Eagles teammates such as Emman Monfort, Juami Tiongson, Fonso Gotladera, and Rabeh Al-Hussaini.
And while veteran Larry Fonacier donned the Ateneo blue and white years before Ravena did, the Blue Eagle connection is still there.
For Ravena, being surrounded by fellow Katipuneros has given him a sense of comfort and has helped make his transition into the team a lot quicker and smoother.
“Well of course, syempre meron, especially my transition from the college, the UAAP tapos here sa PBA, so yung adjustment period ko hindi masyado naging matagal and nahirapan kasi I have Ateneans here and I have a coaching staff that really helped me a lot to adjust quickly, long before the season started.” Ravena shared with ABS-CBN Sports.
Having been a leader for most of his playing career in Ateneo and even during his stints in the SEA Games and Gilas Pilipinas, Ravena says that he’s more than willing to step into that position again in NLEX, should the opportunity present itself.
“You have to take the opportunity when it comes. If I have the opportunity to lead the team, I would gladly do so. It’s not really taking a step back, but just probably approaching it in a different manner than I was approaching it nung college or with Gilas.”
“Here sa NLEX, everybody can be a leader, everybody has their own roles, and perform those roles to help us win a lot of games this season so whether it be a rookie leading the team or trying to help one another, helping each other out during the games, gagawin naman ng bawat isa dito yun.” Ravena added.
All eyes will be Ravena as he makes his PBA debut, but the 24-year old says that he’s just focused on ‘the things that matter’.
