In case it wasn't clear before, Calvin Abueva is still part of the main pool for Gilas Pilipinas.
However, he's not going to play in February against Australia and Japan as punishment for missing the first three practices of the national team to start 2018.
So again, Calvin is out for the pool for February but he's still with the national team.
Gilas head coach Chot Reyes says so himself.
"Calvin has always been part of the pool. He was never dropped from the pool. He is just dropped from the second window," Reyes clarified Monday after the Beast finally showed up to training for the first time.
"But he is still part of the team, part of the pool. But he knows he cannot play in the second window," he added.
Calvin has made peace with his situation and has vowed to continue supporting the national team.
As for Raymond Almazan, the other player dropped from the Gilas pool last week, it remains to be seen.
The Rain or Shine star was absent from practice again Monday and Chot has no idea what's going on with him.
At least Abueva called in advance before showing up for training.
"Hindi ko pa siya nakakausap," Reyes said of Almazan.
"They all know it’s very easy to reach me. Calvin called me. Nag usap kami kanina. He asked if he could practice. I said of course he’s welcome. He’s still part of the team, he’s not just gonna be a part of the pool because like I said, it’s unfair to the guys who’ve always been here that never missed. And he understands. Naiintindihan naman niya," he added.
