Jayson Castro is a crucial piece for the campaigns of both Gilas Pilipinas and TNT.
In the national team, the Blur will have some worthy backups with the likes of Kiefer Ravena, Jio Jalalon, and in essence, Terrence Romeo.
However, for the KaTropa, RR Garcia is the only one left to shoulder the void at point guard when Castro is called up for Gilas duty.
It's a huge task and RR, the former UAAP Most Valuable Player, is taking his preparations seriously.
"Syempre kailangan ready ako lagi," Garcia said.
"Kasi dalawa lang naman kaming point guard dito. Siguro kailangan pa ng extra sa practice, hindi kailangan si kuya Jayson lang aasahan namin," he added.
Wednesday's clash against the upset-conscious Kia Picanto once again gave a glimpse of that unique dynamic for TNT.
Castro got his usual numbers of 22 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists but it was Garcia that finished the job for the KaTropa.
RR scored the team's last five points, including two clutch baskets inside the last 90 seconds to seal the deal for TNT. He went on to have a 13-point, five-rebound performance vs. the Picanto. Garcia scored a total of 10 points in the fourth period.
"Syempre wala nang iba kundi ako o si kuya Kelly [Williams] di ba [step up]. Ang sama nga ng start ko pero siguro kumpiyansa na lang kahit hindi pumapasok yung mga tira ko," Garcia said.
