Centro Escolar University once again leaned on Rod Ebondo as his game-high 33 points towed his side to a 91-85 win against Zark’s Burger-Lyceum of the Philippines University in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup on Tuesday at the Marikina Sports Center.
The Congolese bruiser was superb as always, hauling down 20 rebounds and also collecting three assists, two steals, and two blocks to preserve the Scorpions’ 3-0 card.
“We’re so happy dahil nanalo kami against LPU,” said coach Yong Garcia. “I’m very thankful sa kanila. Tinrabaho talaga nila yung panalo.”
Art Aquino also chipped in 18 markers and six boards, while Orlan Wamar churned out nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.
CEU banked on its experience late as Aquino broke the 84-all deadlock with a drive in the final 1:20.
Nino Ibañez split his freebies on the other end in the last 32.5 seconds, but though Jaycee Marcelino secured the offensive rebound, he would throw the ball away and lead to an Orlan Wamar and-one play with 25.9 ticks on the clock.
CJ Perez still tried to keep Zark’s-LPU in the game, but he continued to misfire from the field before Ebondo sealed the game with a thunderous dunk.
It was a frustrating night for Perez, who had 17 points and eight rebounds but went 7-of-20 from the field.
Jaycee Marcelino got 15 markers and seven rebounds as they kept the ship for the Jawbreakers afloat despite the limited minutes from Mike Nzeusseu, who sprained his ankle in the first half.
Zark’s-LPU saw its four-game winning streak halted as it dropped to 4-2.
