ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- One more win and the Hotshots will finally get over that semis hump.
Magnolia took a crucial 3-2 series lead againts NLEX in their best-of-7 showdown, scoring an 87-78 victory Sunday at the Ynares Center here.
Following a close three quarters, the Hotshots unloaded a 16-4 run to start the final period to pull away for good and are no one win away from arranging a titular showdown with three-time defending champion San Miguel Beer.
After fighting to a draw in the opening period, Magnolia maintained a one-point lead all to the way to the third quarter as both teams struggle to take control of both the game and the series.
However, the Hotshots' fiery start in the fourth proved to be the difference and Magnolia was able to quickly bounce back from a humbling Game 5 loss. The Hotshots led by as many as 18, 84-66, late to ice the win.
"It boiled down to a best-of-three series, so I told the players na we need to go to our strength which is our defense," head coach Chito Victolero said.
"Yun yung adjustment namin, kailangan namin dumipensa to win this series," he added.
