Gilas Pilipinas stint in the 2019 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup ends rather early in the qualifying round but at least the national team exits on a high note.

The Philippines bounced back from a winless Day 1 in Changsha, China with a perfect Day 2 Thursday, beating Iran (21-19) and Samoa (22-15).

Gilas 3x3 did all the winning with just RJ Abarrientos, Rhayyan Amsali, and Barkely Ebona. Ricci Rivero was out of commission due to an injury suffered in the very first game, a Philippines loss to Thailand.

Despite a perfect second day however, the Philippines bows out of the qualifier with a 2-2 mark with Qatar the only team to move on to the tournament proper.

In women’s play, Gilas looks to sweep its preliminary group with another win against Vanuatu. Gilas women already beat Samoa and Taipei yesterday.
