Carlo Biado was so close, yet so far to claiming gold in the 2019 WPA Players Championship held in Griff Billiards in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sunday afternoon Philippine time.
The lone Filipino left standing from the four who made it to the Round of 16 was one rack away, 8-5 from the title before Taiwan’s Kevin Cheng rallied to force a sudden death rack where Biado eventually fell, 11-12 to end up with silver.
Cheng took the lead briefly, 9-8 to complete a four-to-none rack run before Biado cleared two straight racks to move painstakingly close once more, 10-9 in the extended win-by-two match.
The Taiwanese and the Filipino cur artists exchanged leads once more, eventually knotting things up at 11 apiece to set ip a winner-take-all rack.
Cheng closed Biado out in the final frame to complete the stunning come-from-behind win for the WPA Players Championship crown.
Biado, the world no. 3-ranked player meanwhile, has a chance to bounce back from his heartbreaking loss in the U.S. Open next week.
