Eight-division boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao adds another world title to his collection as he defeats Keith "One Time" Thurman via split decision to become the new WBA (Super) Welterweight World Championship at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Nevada, Saturday evening (Sunday morning, Manila time).
Thurman started off aggressive, but it was Pacquiao who made an impact early, connecting on a solid hook to put the American down in the late moments of the first round.
The two welterweight stars battled back and forth in the succeeding rounds, before Pacquiao again turned the tide with a body shot that hurt Thurman in the tenth frame.
After 12 rounds, two of the three judges saw the bout in favor of Pacquiao, 113-114, 115-112, 115-112 for the split decision victory.
The Filipino boxing icon improves to 62-7-2 in his professional career, while Thurman absorbs the first loss of his professional career.
