The Philippine Women's National Football team banked on a strong second half to defeat Iran, 2-0, to open the second round of the 2020 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers, Wednesday at the Grand Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
Joyce Semacio struck early in the second half for the Filipinas to give them a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the second half.
Alisha del Campo made the advantage a bit more comfortable as she doubled the Philippine lead in the 52nd minute.
With the win, the Philippines earns their first three points of the second round, tied with Chinese Taipei for the all-important top seed which will grant entry into the third round of the tournament.
This makes the Philippines' next match, against Chinese Taipei, a crucial one.
The two sides meet on Saturday, April 6th, also at the Grand Hamad Stadium.
