A pair of goals in the second half helped power the Philippine Men’s National Football Team to a 2-1 victory over the Maldives in World Cup and Asian Cup Joint Qualifiers action, Thursday evening Manila time at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives.
After a scoreless first half, the Azkals got on the board courtesy of a goal from Iain Ramsay in the 52nd minute.
Patrick Strauss then doubles the Azkals advantage in the 68th minute, following up on a missed header from Patrick Reichelt.
The Maldives pulled one back late, courtesy of Hassan Naiz, but the home team’s rally came too late as the Pinoy visitors escape with the crucial win.
The Azkals now improve to 2 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss for 7 points in Group A. The win also gives the Pinoy side some much needed momentum as the head to Dubai for a showdown with top-seeded Syria on November 19th to close out the Qualifiers action for 2019.
