Lyceum of the Philippines University swept the elimination round and then got swept in the championship round of the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Right after losing the Finals, and the title, to San Beda College, however, the Pirates were already thinking of what’s ahead for them. “I just told them that our vision won’t stop just because of losing in this Finals. We just made a bigger platform for us now to really push through with our vision,” head coach Topex Robinson said.
He then continued, “I’m excited for what lies ahead of us after this experience. At the end of the day, we will be defined with how we faced this loss.”
Apparently, the Intramuros-based crew will face their loss by getting right back to work in the 2018 PBA D-League. “We’re gonna join the (PBA) D-League. I know it’s gonna prepare us for Season 94 kasi mga kuya naman namin mga kalaban namin,” he said.
He the continued, “We’re gonna prepare for what’s gonna be ahead for us in the (PBA) D-League.”
And so, for the first time in its history, LPU will be competing in the amateur league, joining forces with the Zark’s Burgers.
There, they will duke it out with San Beda College-backed defending champion Cignal as well as league stalwarts Centro Escolar University and Tanduay.
Four other NCAA teams will also see action there with Jose Rizal University returning and College of St. Benilde and University of Perpetual Help entering the fray. Also, Batangas will now be associated with Emilio Aguinaldo College.
The 2018 PBA D-League will tip-off in January with its Draft scheduled for December of this year.
When that time rolls along, Robinson vowed that he and his Pirates will have moved on from their bitter loss. “I’m a believer that everything happens cause it’s meant to happen. I don’t wanna dwell on what happened before,” he said.
He then continued, “I draw strength from them knowing that they really gave their best. Our best wasn’t a guarantee that we were gonna win a championship, but at the end of the day, we did it the right way.”
