Scoring leader Shola Alvarez continued with her superb offensive showing in her breakout year.
The graduating hitter fired a career-best 30 points as Jose Rizal University strengthened its bid for a Final Four spot with a 22-25, 28-26, 25-17, 25-18, win against Letran in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Bombers won their fifth match in eight outings to move to a two-way tie at fourth to fifth spots with San Sebastian College.
Alvarez, who posted 28 points in a historic win over the Lady Stag last January 8, had 25 attacks, four aces and a kill block to lead JRU. She backed up her offense with great floor coverage after tallying 20 digs and eight excellent receptions for the Lady Bombers, who showed the Lady Knights the exit door in the race for the last two Final Four seats.
Defending champion Arellano University and San Beda College secured berths in the semis and sport identical 7-1 slates.
Dolly Versoza had 17 points while opposite hitter Karen Montojo got 15 markers as support to Alvarez.
The Lady Knights suffered their fifth defeat in eight outings to slide down at seventh spot.
Glayssa Torres had 16 points while Jaymeleene Parin and Rhosselle Urriza finished with 15 and 11 markers, respectively, for Letran.
