EAC’s first five still shouldn’t be taken lightly

Jerome Garcia and EAC are rebuilding anew

HOW’D THEY DO LAST SEASON? 7-11, seventh

YES, THEY’RE STILL HERE: Juju Bautista, Jerome Garcia, Hamadou Laminou

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY: Maui Cruz

GOOD LUCK ON FUTURE ENDEAVORS: Francis Munsayac, Sidney Onwubere

WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM EAC?

EAC has lost its greatest ever product in basketball in double-double machine Sidney Onwubere.

With the graduation of the now Rain or Shine Elasto Painter, the shoes of a main man, a go-to-guy, and a leader have been left behind.

Nobody knows just who would take that place as gunslinging guard Jerome Garcia has yet to show signs of leadership, Cameroonian powerhouse Hamadou Laminou is far from full strength after his ACL tear, and prized rookie Maui Cruz is, well, a rookie.

“Yung Garcia, ine-expect naming magbibigay ng malaking contribution on both ends.” – head coach Ariel Sison

Nonetheless, the Generals still have what it takes to compete – especially with a first five bannered by Garcia, Laminou, Cruz, and energetic forward Juju Bautista.

The only question is, how far will that first five take them now that most of their competition have taken a step forward.

“Sa EAC community, I will assure you na lahat nang pwede kong gawin, lahat nang pwedeng gawin ng team, gagawin namin para manalo. Hindi namin kayo ipapahiya nang ganun-ganun lang.” – head coach Ariel Sison

WHO IS/ARE THE PLAYER/S TO WATCH OUT FOR FROM EAC?

With no Onwubere as well as longtime court general Francis Munsayac,6 and Laminou not 100 percent, Cruz will have the greenest of green lights in his first year in the Seniors. As a Brigadier, the stocky guard has proven he can take on the scoring load – and now, he will get all the chances to prove that anew as a General.

Still, the key to contention of the San Marcelino-based squad is Laminou and how all 6-foot-8 of him is doing. If he could be back to the paint presence he was, then they have a fighting chance.

“Hamadou is doing good. Although wala pa siyang clearance from the doctor, he’s already joining us in drills, minor scrimmages, and play reviews.” – head coach Ariel Sison

Now in his third season, Ariel Sison should also be challenged to prove he belongs as a head coach in the big leagues.

WHY SHOULD WE ROOT FOR EAC?

EAC was the trendy darkhorse a season ago. Of course, injuries and bad luck didn’t help their cause then.

“Kung gagawin namin ang lahat para makapasok ng Final Four, ako, I can assure you that this team will be a darkhorse in this season.” – head coach Ariel Sison

Now, the Generals aren’t even a darkhorse to be a darkhorse. Now, they are just a team searching for an identity and hoping to make something happen – and isn’t that what we’re all doing in this life?

WHERE WOULD EAC BE AT THE END OF NCAA SEASON 94?

Unfortunately for EAC, this season will see them returning to the basement. The good news is that prized rookie Cruz will be thrown into the fire and who knows, perhaps all that pressure may just turn him into their long-awaited diamond.

WHEN IS EAC’S FIRST GAME IN NCAA SEASON 94?

EAC will take a stand up against Letran’s big, bad lineup on July 10 at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

As always, all of the #GalingNCAA will be on S+A, S+A HD, LIGA, LIGA HD, and livestream.
