RK Ilagan torched the nets inside the Filoil Flying V Centre even as Allyn Bulanadi was a pleasant surprise on the floor on Tuesday in San Sebastian College-Recoletos' 82-51 domination of Jose Rizal University.
Ilagan waxed hot with 25 points, including five triples, on top of five assists, three rebounds, and two steals while Alvin Capobres also contributed 16 markers and six boards.
The Golden Stags stampeded right out of the gates and never looked back all the way to the biggest win thus far in the NCAA 95 Men's Basketball Tournament.
With that, they lived up to the hype as one of the championship contenders. "We're flattered na nasasama kami sa Final Four (projections) and that's good for us kasi na-challenge yung mga bata," head coach Egay Macaraya said post-game.
By the final frame, the game was so lopsided that coach Egay allowed Bulanadi, expected to be out of the game as he continues to mend his dislocated shoulder, to get his feet wet in the tournament. "I was hoping nga na hindi siya lalaro, pero he was forcing me para maramdaman na raw niya ulit ang NCAA," coach Egay said.
And in just two minutes of play, the versatile forward delivered the goods with seven points and a steal.
On the other hand, no Heavy Bomber was in double-digits. Marwin Dionisio and Stefan Steinl, recruits from their high school program, topped the scoring column for them with eight points apiece.
