Allyn Bulanadi was a man on a mission all game long, Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre, and ultimately willed San Sebastian College-Recoletos right through University of Perpetual Help, 99-94, and all the way to the stepladder playoffs of the NCAA 95 Men's Basketball Tournament.
Bulanadi was on fire from start to finish for a career-high 44 points, none bigger than his 5-0 spurt in the last three minutes that boosted the Golden Stags into the lead they would successfully defend until the final buzzer.
They were actually in complete command for majority of the matchup until the Altas made a game out of it and even tied the tally at 88-all inside the last three minutes.
It was at that point, though, that the graduating wing hit two free throws and then a triple to put his team on top once more, 93-88.
Perps tried to mount some more comebacks from there, but Bulanadi shooed them away each and every time and. "For me, Allyn is ready for the big league. He's proven it already many times," head coach Egay Macaraya said of his prized ward who also totaled eight rebounds and four assists all while shooting 14-of-26 from the field and 9-of-9 from the line.
Behind the lefty forward's career game, Baste busted through an 11-7 standing and barged back into the playoffs after a one-year absence.
At the same time, the win shut the door on fifth-running Mapua University which was hoping to couple a triumph over College of St. Benilde with a San Sebastian loss to have a shot at the next round.
That will not be the case anymore, however, as the playoff cast is now complete with the four-seed Golden Stags waging war with three-seed Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the first game of the stepladder playoffs scheduled for November 5. "I guess the good thing about this is the boys really need rest para at least maka-recover," coach Egay said.
Second-seed Lyceum of the Philippines University then awaits the winner from there while top-seed and undefeated San Beda University is already sitting pretty in the Finals.
Meanwhile, Perpetual closed its campaign at 5-13. Edgar Charcos paced them in his last game in the league with 22 points on top of seven rebounds and six assists.
