Marcio Lassiter went hot early.
The worst you can do is to add fuel to an already waxing-hot San Miguel Beer scorer.
Nico Salva just made that mistake Friday night.
Lassiter and Salva got into a verbal altercation late in the third quarter with the Beermen already blowing the game open.
The SMB guard made Salva and the Meralco Bolts pay with a scoring spurt that highlighted the Beermen’s 105-93 win in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.
“Oh that guy? He woke me up,” said Lassiter, who led SMB with 25 points on 12-of-17 field goal shooting with four rebounds and four assists.
The Beermen were up 69-56 in the third when Lassiter and Salva got a little too close for comfort, exchanging words and a little shoving as they jog up court.
Lassiter got the best of Salva as the Beerman drew an offensive foul. Lassiter followed it up by nailing a step-back jumper after shaking off the Meralco forward.
The two continued to exchange sweet nothings and after the Bolts bricked two chances, Lassiter buried a booming triple over the outstretched arms of Salva before bellowing out a loud roar.
He made his roar just a little too close to Salva’s face, warranting a double technical on both players with 3:11 left in the period and SMB up 74-56.
Meralco subbed out Salva after that play while Lassiter drilled his last point of the game with just a minute left in the third quarter that put SMB up by 20 points, 83-63.
“Pretty much I was just playing my game, trying to play team game and I guess he just woke up a sleeping dragon. He just barked at the wrong tree,” said Lassiter.
In the end, Lassiter gave a little more jab on Salva.
“He kinda just woke me up pretty much,” he said. “I guess, ‘Thanks Nico for firing me up a little bit. I didn’t need it but it helped.’”
