After failing to get anything going in Game 1, Magnolia was on target in Game 2, pretty much ending deciding the result late in the third period.

Big-time answer from the Hotshots in Manila Clasico.

Magnolia has tied the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals against Brgy. Ginebra, scoring a sensational 106-77 win in Game 2 Monday at the Big Dome.

Tied at one game each, this series now moves on to sudden death Game 3 on Wednesday where the winner will advance to take on no. 2 Rain or Shine in the next round.

After failing to get anything going in Game 1, Magnolia was on target in Game 2, pretty much ending deciding the result late in the third period.

The Hotshots were up by a commanding 30 points, 78-48, with 2:54 to go in the third quarter and the rest of the game was reduced to garbage time as Magnolia was never threatened anymore.

“We just only tied the series,” head coach Chito Victolero said.

“We just tried to control our emotions again. There’s a Game 3 in two days. Kailangan lang maka-pahinga kami ng maayos tomorrow and try to prepare hard for Game 3,” he added.

After a flat start to the series in Game 1, Magnolia came out firing to start Game 2, scoring the first 11 points.

The Hotshots never looked back as they overwhelmed the Gin Kings all the way to the end with a balanced attack that saw six players finish in double figures.

Ian Sangalang and Robbie Herndon led the way, scoring 21 and 18 points respectively.

Jio Jalalon was the star though, going for 17 points, five rebounds, six assists, and a game-high five steals which is a quarter of Ginebra’s total team turnovers for the game.

The Gin Kings struggled so much that Sol Mercado was their lone double-digit scorer. Sol scored 13 points and 11 came during the fourth period when it was reduced to 12 minutes of garbage time.
