As San Miguel Beer heads to sudden death against TNT in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup playoffs, the question now is whether or not June Mar Fajardo will be 100 percent.
Halfway through the fourth quarter of what would be a San Miguel loss in Game 2 Monday, Fajardo went down following a reboound play and was holding on to his knee.
It took him a while to get up and he did return later in the quarter but it was pretty obvious that the league’s reigning five-time MVP was shaken up.
He also suffered a scratch in his forehead that required to be treated and covered up.
“Di ko na alam eh, pagtalon ko parang may bumangga tapos na-hyperextend,” Fajardo said when asked about his knee.
“Okay lang yun sa noo, wag lang yung sa tuhod. Problema sakin yun,” he added
It would be a huge problem for San Miguel if June actually misses Game 3.
Despite missing a chunk of playing time, Fajardo went for 24 points and 19 rebounds for the Beermen in Game 2. He also allowed the champs to tie the game late at 86-all following four straight free throws.
With a day in between Game 2 and Game 3, June Mar is confident he can suit up.
“Pwede siguro,” Fajardo said on Game 3.
“Medyo masakit [knee], pero mas masakit na natalo kami. Pahinga langg ng maayos, kailangan namin i-panalo yung Game 3 kasi ayaw pa namin magbakasyon,” he added.
