Magnolia’s 21-point lead in Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals was down to one and the Hotshots were in dire need of points to hold off a charging Rain or Shine team.
Off a timeout, the inbounds pass went the way of Jio Jalalon and he was immediately fouled, sent to the line for perhaps the most crucial free throws of this best-of-7 series.
Cool under pressure, Jalalon made both. He had no choice.
“Iniisip ko talaga na masho-shoot ko,” Jalalon on his two free throws that sealed the final score of 94-91 in favor of Magnolia.
“Kasi pag hindi ko na-shoot yun, yari ako sa mga teammates ko. Kailangan din namin yung panalo. Medyo may kaba pero pina-practice ko naman yun lagi,” he added.
After forcing a 2-all tie in this best-of-7, the Hotshots quickly move on to Game 5.
Magnolia’s back-to-back wins certainly go for naught if the team gives up the next game and the Hotshots are now bracing for a sure answer from the Elasto Painters.
“Di namin masabi hanggang Game 5 kasi alam naman natin ang Rain or Shine hindi magpapatalo yan,” Jalalon said.
“Kung ano yung ibabato nila samin, ready lang kami,” he added.
