Game 7 between San Miguel and Magnolia was an instant classic, with the Beermen surviving in the end to score a one-point win for the title.
To wrap up these Finals and before starting the mid-season Commissioner’s Cup, a last By the Numbers look for the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals.

The league’s five-time MVP broke the longest standing individual record in Game 7 by grabbing a total of 31 boards. It’s the most by a local since 7-Up’s Marcelo Simbulan grabbed 29 in 1975.

Another record obviously was the Beermen’s incredible 5-peat in the All-Filipino. Literally no team has done that ever and San Miguel is now one championship away from winning a second Perpetual Trophy.
That would be another record if the Beermen can accomplish it next year.
San Miguel was down 17 in the third quarter of Game 7 to Magnolia and the Beermen had to rally just to make it a game by the time the fourth quarter starter.
In the last 12 minutes, San Miguel came through and several key baskets late by the team’s star players were good enough to hold off the Hotshots for the title.

The Beermen’s problems in Game 7 can be traced in the second quarter when the Magnolia defense shut down San Miguel’s usually high-powered offense. SMB’s five points in the second quarter was the lowest ever in any quarter for a PBA Finals Game 7.
