BATANGAS CITY — After a bad turnover to end the first half against Columbian Sunday, Rey Nambatac got a tongue-lashing from Rain or Shine head coach Caloy Garcia.
It’s one thing to make mistakes, but it’s another thing to keep making the same ones according to Garcia and so he let his young point guard have it at the break,
Displaying some strong mental fortitude, Nambatac bounced back in the second half and as the Elasto Painters scrambled in overtime against Columbian here, it was the former Letran Knight that scored the marginal basket that allowed ROS to head back to Manila with a nice win.
Rey finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals against the Dyip.
Yung ganung klaseng game, mental toughness na lang talaga,” Nambatac said on his huge shot with four second left in extra time.
Ang maganda naman pag out of town kami, di pa kami natatalo. Good thing din, malaki tiwala ni coach sakin di niya ako nilabas kahit overtime,” he added.
As for him getting scolded by Garcia at halftime, Nambatac is taking everything in stride.
That just shows that coach Caloy cares for him he says.
“Yun yung nag-motivate talaga sakin. Nung first half, pinagalitan talaga ako ni coach dahil meron akong useless turnover which cause an easy two points sa kalaban. Motivated ako coming to the second half.
